We all hear people complain about churches. But the bigger issue is whether those churches that people complain about are really a church.
Unfortunately, many today may complain about churches but only a few know what really constitutes a biblical church – let alone a church. According to Magisterial Reformers such as Calvin defined the true church to be one that 1) preaches the gospel, 2) practices sacraments (baptism and communion), and 3) promotes church discipline. The key word is “and” not “or” as if any of the three is optional.
Tragically, not all “churches” today preach the gospel, practice sacraments, and promote church discipline. Hence, the need for the churches to get back to the basics is immensely great and urgent.
What was once described as Post tenebras lux (i.e. after darkness, light in Latin) during the Protestant Reformation is now described Post lux, tenebras (after light, darkness).
This blog promotes the spirit of true reformation – i.e., ecclesia semper reformanda est (“the church must always be reforming”) – to the sole purpose for God’s glory.
Soli Deo gloria!
